The wall paintings and other decorations in St Leonard's Church are acknowledged to be one of Clayton & Bell's two masterpieces, the other being at St Michael's & All Angels, Garton on the Wold.

They are the reason the church is Grade I listed and no surface of the church is left undecorated.

Restoration of the decorative scheme

A programme of restoration work is now underway to restore the decorative scheme by Clayton & Bell to its magnificent original glory.

Although the main wall paintings are in excellent condition there has been both wanton damange and water damage to various sections over the years.

The final phase if now underway with the completion of the reredos in May 2019, leaving only the window splays to complete.
